RESULTS : You Must Have Them

Results: You Must Have Them By Rod Patterson, MBA

Good intentions don’t move the needle. Results do. We live in a performance-driven world where outcomes often define credibility, influence, and legacy. Whether you’re leading a claims operation, mentoring future executives, or shaping board-level strategy, results are critical. They are the proof of good stewardship.

The bottom line is this: greatness requires evidence.

Take the NBA, for example. When debating who is the G.O.A.T. (Greatest of All Time), two names consistently rise to the top—Michael Jordan and LeBron James. Arguments can be made for others (like Kareem), but the conversation centers on Jordan and LeBron for one reason: results.

If LeBron had no championships to his name, there would be no debate. The same applies to Jordan. There are countless talented athletes in history, but when we talk about the greatest, we’re talking about those who delivered when it mattered most. Championships aren’t the only metric—but they are the scoreboard of legacy. And in leadership, the same principle applies.

Talent is admirable. Charisma is magnetic. But results? Results are undeniable.

Ken Blanchard’s Servant Leadership model reminds us that relationships and results must walk together. Results are the outcome of intentional leadership, strategic clarity, and relentless follow-through. Relationships create the environment. Results validate the impact.

Results answer the questions:

– Are we stewarding resources wisely?

– Are we solving the right problems?

– Are we building something that lasts?

– Are we on track with our goals?

So how do we lead with results at the core?

– Clarify the win. Everyone should know what success looks like.

– Measure what matters. Track progress with precision, not just passion.

– Empower execution. Equip your team to deliver, not just discuss.

– Celebrate outcomes. Recognize performance, not just participation.

Results are the championship rings of leadership. They are earned through discipline, delivered through strategy, and remembered through legacy.

Anyone who wants to be considered “great”, must have them.  Lead with clarity. Deliver with conviction. And let your results speak louder than your résumé. And, in case you were wondering, I’m on Team LeBron!
